No one likes to lose anyone, whether they’ve been in your life for a long time or a short time. No one likes to say goodbye for the last time. It’s a heartbreaking occurrence that happens every minute of every day. At airports, hospitals, graveyards and many other places. That goodbye symbolises the end of a whole chapter in your life. It puts an end to the memory book inside your head that you were filling up with images and moments of your time together. Losing someone isn’t easy and it isn’t supposed to be. One of the worst ways to lose someone is losing them and having regrets. Regretting not saying something you really wanted to say. Regretting not spending more time with them. Regretting the bad times. Regretting not saying that final goodbye in time.
Don’t focus on everything you regret and instead treasure the memories and the good times. Treasure the things they taught you and the places you went. Remember the smile on their face and never let that smile leave your mind. Remember the way they’d light up when they spoke about all the things they loved. Remember to go on with your life living it to the fullest because they wouldn’t want you to stop now.
No goodbyes are easy but trust me when I say you’re not making it easier on yourself if you’re constantly overthinking all the things that went wrong.
Don’t hurt yourself over the past. The past is a snapshot of life lessons, memories and experiences. It’s supposed to either make you happy or make you determined to do better or be better.
I’m not fond of goodbyes. No one is. Funny thing is when certain times come we know that the goodbye we give is final. We act as though on a daily basis saying bye to a loved one as we start our journey to work isn’t as important. We don’t even think that it could very well be the final goodbye. We act as though tomorrow is a given, as though it’s set in stone. It’s not.
Goodbyes need to be said whether they hurt you or not. There’s a beauty in them. A closure, for that moment or forever. Say goodbye, say hello, treasure your life, appreciate those around you, focus on filling up that book in your head with positives only and good memories.
Losing someone hits you hard but hurting yourself over the loss hits you harder.
They want you to be happy, they want you to keep living. Don’t put everything on pause just to regret and feel guilty for times you cannot possibly change or erase.
Tomorrow isn’t guaranteed so say goodbye today.
That being said don’t let goodbyes scare you from saying hello. Don’t let the thought of losing someone make you not get close to anyone else. Goodbyes aren’t a complete end to a story, they’re an end to a chapter and our lives are full of chapters. Hellos are the most beautiful way of starting that new chapter and new beginning in your life.
Say hello often and goodbye daily. Don’t let one relationship hang at the edge of unknown territory without that final closure.
Goodbyes are heard but after one goodbye there will always be a few hellos.
